A man who barricaded himself inside a home in Lake Carmel was taken into custody late Friday night.
The incident began Friday afternoon around 3:40 p.m. in the Vernon Drive area when a family member called police reporting the situation.
The Putnam Sheriff's Department and Kent Police responded with assistance from Westchester County Police.
There had been reports the man had a gun and that a loud bang was heard at one point, but no weapon was immediately recovered.
The Sheriff's Office alerted residents in the Vernon Drive area to stay inside during the first hours of the standoff and school buses were rerouted.
Update, 9 p.m. Friday
A subject remains barricaded inside a house in the Vernon Drive area of Carmel, but there is no longer a danger to the community, the Putnam County Sheriff's office confirmed.

Authorities are still at the scene in the Vernon Drive area of Lake Carmel in communication with a subject who has barricaded himself inside a house during an hours-long standoff.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office has sent out an alert via Facebook and Twitter warning resident around the Vernon Drive area in Lake Carmel to stay inside and lock their houses.
"ALERT! ALERT deployed. Heavy police activity in the area of Vernon Dr, Lake Carmel. Residents are urged to secure their residence & stay inside, anyone outside are asked to stay away. School buses are being diverted from the area until further notice," the department said on social media
The incident began around 3:40 p.m. Friday at 46 Vernon Drive. The department's emergency defense team is on the scene.
The Carmel schools Superintendent Andy Irwin tweeted: "Due to police activity, CCSD buses cannot access Vernon Drive in Lake Carmel. CHS and GFMS students from Vernon have been brought to GFMS & can be picked up or will be brought home when the road is cleared. KPS students from Vernon can be picked up at KPS."
